Starting point for this video work where the many news photos of refugees I saw.Reality is often more absurd and bitter than you could imagine…We are inundated with images and this also makes us jaded in a certain way.Our conscience has become a casual phenomenon of our time.Today it is here, tomorrow it is gone.

The video incorporates contemporary themes as: The corona crisis, climate crisis and all the agitation in the world in a symbolic way.  I see this work as an artistic vaccine, seeing and experiencing a form of alienation and detachment makes you produce ‘antibodies’

The personal and emotional history which every man carries is the premise of this video work. Memories are experiences reflected in someone’s face, glance or posture. The human capacity and inability to relate to his or her own history become visible and tangible.

The guiding principle of Thuis, Home, Heimat is the endless stream of photos of refugees that I see on a daily basis. I have consciously chosen to work with Western people. This is not something that is far away and therefore does not concern us. This can happen to us all.

The midwinter festival was the feast of a farewell and a new beginning; of death and fertility. Elements of this celebration are used in a symbolic way intertwined with our customs and manners of modern times. An intimate situation changed gradually in an almost oppressive ritual.

Themes in this video is the meeting -the coming together of people and the farewell . One embrace divides into 22 different encounters. We say each time in a different way goodbye. 

An old woman sits at a table, memories and emotions glide over her face. Suddenly it appears that nothing is what it seems.

Two women facing each other, a newspaper in between them. Light and time goes from right to left. Are they entwined or not? Comforting each other or themselves? They suddenly let loose, the paper falls away and they look at each other for the first time.

A man violently moving on a tomb, three women  try to keep him in still. They pretend the situation is completely in hand but one of the women gets carried away with her emotions.

a white cloud ‘explodes’ in the hands of a man.

the same moment his female “shadow side” loses herself from him.

A woman trapped in her memories and the way she deals with the unresolved emotions that she carries along with herself. Her actions and are as metaphors for what is not outspoken or can be shared.
